Building a no BS chicken shop for Kokoras

Yellow Kokoras bag, 27 Ballarat St, Yarraville

No BS. Just Bird. Chef Alex Xinis had wanted to open a chicken shop since his apprentice days. Kokoras is that shop: Greek-style charcoal chicken, salads and sides in Yarraville, made simply and done properly.

Chicken shops tend to fall into two camps: the dirty bird late-night feed, or the Mediterranean grill branded with every Greek trope going. Think ocean blue with a side of feta chips. Alex wanted something else: a place for everyone, affordable enough for a few visits a week, built on simple, good-quality food, and with room to grow into other suburbs.

Everyone has a chicken shop memory, from the Friday night chook and chips to Alex's own, Chicken Magic. We built the brand around one straight-talking idea, No BS. Just Bird: comfort food redefined for the modern age, with the integrity to back it up.

The result is a contemporary take on the classic chicken shop that nods to the old tropes without leaning on them, now open in Yarraville. Winner, winner, chicken dinner.

(01) strategy + positioning

No BS. Just Bird.

A straight-talking chicken shop that doesn't try to be anything it's not. Good food, real flavors, and a no-frills experience that's as simple as it is satisfying.

(02) brand identity

A hint of old chicken shop.

The identity nods to the classic chicken shop without falling back on its tropes: punchy, bold, a little bit Greek and built for today.

(03) packaging

Caution: hot chook inside.

Foil chicken bags, chip boxes, wax paper, custom insulated carry bags and a full suite of stickers, from bumper-style and die-cut to round sauce and pita stickers, all built for a takeaway-first chicken shop.

(04) website

Your weekly chicken fix, sorted.

We designed a landing page that brings the brand online and sends hungry customers straight through to online ordering.

(05) concept + direction

A chicken joint, but better.

Working alongside interiors studio Wingnut, we set the look and feel for the space: a contemporary take on the classic chicken shop, balancing bold utility with comforting familiarity. Stainless steel, clean tiles and lime-washed walls meet bright color, lightboxes and branded merch shelves.

Signs, menus and merch.

The brand rolled out across exterior and interior signage, window graphics, dine-in and digital menus, staff uniforms and aprons, napkins, coasters and tableware.
